Dr. Alexander Elder
Alexander Elder, M.D., is a professional trader, living in New
York. He is the author of "Trading for a Living" and the
"Study Guide for Trading for a Living", considered modern
classics among traders. First published in 1993, these
international best-sellers have been translated into Chinese,
Dutch, French, German, Greek, Japanese, Korean, Polish, and
Russian.
He also wrote "Rubles to Dollar"s (a book about the
transformation of Russia) and Come into my my trading room in
2002.
Dr. Elder was born in Leningrad and grew up in Estonia, where
he entered medical school at the age of 16. At 23, while
working as a ship’s doctor, he jumped a Soviet ship in Africa
and received political asylum in the United States. He worked
as a psychiatrist in New York City and taught at Columbia
University. His experience as a psychiatrist provided him with
a unique insight into the psychology of trading. Dr. Elder’s
books, articles, and software reviews have established him as
one of today’s leading experts on trading.

A Complete Guide to Trading (Hardcover)
Elder shares his learning over the years as a professional
trader and expert in technical analysis and his principle of
understanding the three Ms (Mind, Method, Money), which will
strengthen the discipline required to be successful in
trading. He explores crucial factors in the markets that most
experts overlook, including time, volume, and open interest,
and describes little-known indicators to track them
profitably. In addition, he covers many of the more technical
approaches to investing in futures, such as factoring in the
meaning from the Elliott Wave, oscillators, moving averages,
Market Logic, and point-and-figure charting.

Rubles to DollarsRubles to Dollars: Making Money on Russia's
Exploding Financial Frontier
The new book describes the potential for profiting by
investing in post-Soviet Russia, although "if you have less
than $100,000 to invest in Russia, you are pretty much limited
to mutual funds" (the one he mentions, Lexington Dialog
Troika, lost about 80 percent of its value in September 1998).
Unfortunately, the Russian market has collapsed since he
finished writing. The first half of the book describes
Russia's investment environment, which while entertaining
seems misleading in many places. The second half describes
Russian financial instruments and is more useful, providing a
summary difficult to find elsewhere. Recommended only for
academic libraries with an interest in the Russian economy. |
